Satsuma Essential Oil

Who doesn’t love tangerines, oranges, and mandarins? They’re some of the most cherished and loved fruits around the world. They’re great for your immune system and for fighting cold and flu thanks to their vitamin C content. Whether you love citrus fruit or not, you’ve probably eaten them at some point or another and you probably think you know all of them, don’t you? Well, have you heard of Satsumas? Probably not. Satsumas are a special type of mandarin oranges that first appeared in Japan over 700 years ago. They’re a lighter shade of orange than most citrus fruit and they’re much juicier and sweeter. They’re also the easiest to peel out of all the citrus fruit. Besides their amazing taste, there’s one important thing that people get out of Satsumas: Satsuma essential oil.

Origins of Satsuma Oil

Satsuma essential oil is unbelievably useful and has countless therapeutic benefits. It can act as a disinfectant, calm the nerves, relieve spasms, boost the circulation, improve detoxification, enhance digestive health, strengthen and support the liver, speed up wound healing, stimulate the immune system, act as a sedative, and even improve your appetite.

So where does this essential oil come from? Can’t you just eat a Satsuma fruit instead of using the oil? Well, it depends. When you eat a citrus fruit, do you eat the peel? Of course, not. Well, guess what? Satsuma essential oil is found in the peel of the Satsuma fruit. You have to cold press some fresh Satsuma peels, if you want to get the Satsuma essential oil because that’s the only way you can extract it. Let’s get into more detail about what this oil can do for you.

Benefits of Satsuma Oil

Great for Hypertension

Satsuma essential oil is a great component to include in your diet if you’re someone who suffers from hypertension. Elevated blood pressure can be quite dangerous. It can increase the risk of heart diseases and strokes which are the 1st and 3rd leading causes of death in the United States. Worst of all, there aren’t specific signs or symptoms that can let you know if your blood pressure is too high. You don’t find out until it’s too late. That’s why hypertension is called the “silent killer”. It basically sneaks up on you. That’s why it’s important to get your blood pressure checked regularly and to try to eat foods that help improve your blood pressure. Satsuma essential oil can do just that.

Whether you already know you have elevated blood pressure or feel like you might, you can’t go wrong with Satsuma essential oil. It can help lower you blood pressure to a reasonable level, keeping you safe from all the unwanted complications of hypertension like atherosclerosis and heart attacks. Of course, if you’re already on antihypertensive medication, that doesn’t mean you can replace it with Satsuma essential oil. It’s not an alternative for your pills. However, it can work synergistically alongside your medication to give you better control over your blood pressure.

Consult your Physician

I know it can be hard to follow the strict low-salt, low-pretty-much-everything diet that you’re put on once you’re diagnosed with hypertension. With Satsuma essential oil, you can at least relax knowing that if you slip up and eat something that raises your blood pressure, Satsuma essential oil will have your back. Talk to your physician about how you can add it to your diet so that it can make your life easier. Who knows, maybe in a few months, you’ll require much less antihypertensive medication?

Helps you Lose Weight

Satsuma essential oil can help you shed those few extra pounds you’ve been carrying around since Christmas. It’s all thanks to Satsuma essential oil’s fiber-like components. Doctors always recommend fiber-rich foods for those who are trying to lose weight. The secret to fibers is that they aren’t quickly absorbed from your stomach. They sit there for a long time before getting absorbed into your bloodstream which means you stay full for hours after eating a fiber-rich meal. This helps you stop binge-eating and reduces your hunger cravings. By eating less, your body begins to rely on its own fat stores as a source of energy, which means you start losing weight. Satsuma essential oil basically encourages your body to start breaking down its fats and boosts its metabolism.

Regulates Cholesterol

Satsuma essential oil can help you control your cholesterol levels. We always hear about the dangers of elevated cholesterol levels. Doctors always advise us to stay away from cholesterol-rich foods. Why? Because it can lead to several diseases, the most dangerous of them being atherosclerosis which can increase your risk of heart attacks and strokes. Cholesterol basically clogs up your arteries, making it harder for blood to move along them. This results in less blood reaching your organs, which can cause any number of diseases, including hypertension, heart failure, liver failure, and kidney failure. Luckily, Satsuma essential oil can help with your cholesterol problems.

Lowers LDL and Raises HDL Levels

Satsuma essential oil has the ability to lower your LDL levels while increasing your HDL levels at the same time. LDL and HDL are two forms of cholesterol that circulate in your blood. So here’s a logical question: I thought you said we want lower cholesterol levels in our bodies. Why is it a good thing that Satsuma essential oil increases our HDL? Well, the thing you might not know is that not all types of cholesterol are bad for you. HDL, which is high-density lipoprotein, is known as the “good cholesterol”.

The more HDL you have, the less liable you are to heart attacks, strokes, and all those problems we just talked about. You definitely want higher HDL levels in your blood. So it’s a good thing that Satsuma essential oil makes that possible. On the other hand, LDL (low-density lipoprotein) is called “bad cholesterol”. You’ve probably guessed it. LDL is the one responsible for all the heart problems and diseases we’ve mentioned. The less LDL you have in your blood, the safer you are and the less likely you are to have any cholesterol-related problems. Lucky for you, Satsuma essential oil lowers LDL levels.

Antiseptic

Satsuma essential oil is a great antiseptic. It’s effective against several types of bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoa, and other harmful microorganisms. For example, if you get any kind of cut, wound or skin injury, your skin becomes liable to skin infections. Bacteria try to invade your skin layers and cause all kinds of diseases. To make matters worse, bacteria don’t stop at the surface. They keep going until they reach your bloodstream and eventually cause a condition known as sepsis. Sepsis can cause dangerously high fevers and can lead to death. Luckily, Satsuma essential oil doesn’t give bacteria a chance. It kills the bacteria that try to infect your wound or injury before they get a chance to cause any long-lasting damage and also prevents sepsis altogether.

 How to use Satsuma Oil

So that’s pretty much everything Satsuma essential oil can do for you. Now all that’s left for you to know is how to use this miraculous oil. The method of application depends on what you’re using it for. If you want it to boost your metabolism, all you need is a drop or two on your handkerchief or in your diffuser.

Solution 1

If you’re suffering from gastritis, indigestion, dyspepsia, GI infections, ulceration, spasms, colitis, flatulence, or even hiccups, all you need to do is take 2 drops of Satsuma essential oil and add 10 drops of wheatgerm oil and then massage them to the troublesome area.

Solution 2

If you’re feeling lazy but still want to get rid of that annoying flatulence, indigestion, nausea, or gas, here’s a solution. Fill up your bathtub with warm water, add 2 to 3 drops of Satsuma essential oil, and climb in. All your gastrointestinal problems will go away in no time. The same method is great for those who have tense muscles, epilepsy, mental disturbances, or convulsions.

Solution 3

If you’re getting Satsuma essential oil because you’re someone who cares deeply about their skin, then here’s what you should do. Add 2 to 3 drops of Satsuma essential oil to 15 drops of jojoba oil and then massage that mixture onto your skin. This will help improve your skin’s circulation and increase its blood supply, which can help you get rid of scars and age marks and even increases your skin’s elasticity! Another great circulation-boosting mixture is Satsuma essential oil (5 drops) with sesame oil (2 drops). This mixture is perfect for your skin and is also a great option for those who suffer from varicose veins, arthritis, rheumatic pain, and blood clots.

Avoid Sunlight Exposure

One thing to keep in mind when using Satsuma essential oil  is that like most citrus oil, you should avoid sunlight exposure for 12 hours after applying it topically to your skin. You should also avoid applying it directly to your eyes, ears, nose or any sensitive membranes. It’s a precaution that comes with pretty much all products on the market but it’s worth mentioning. Other than that, it’s generally safe. Satsuma essential oil is definitely one of the most versatile oils on the market. You just need to know how you can utilize its properties for your benefit. Once you do, you’ll immediately fall in love with it.
